Where it all started...
Founded in 1987 by Mr. Mahendra C. Sheth, Galiakotwala Engineering Company (GEC) was born out of a clear vision – to make the Indian chemical industry self-reliant by reducing dependence on expensive imported equipment.
During the early planning years, Mr. Sheth identified a major barrier facing Indian chemical plants: the prohibitive cost of imported process equipment, which restricted growth and innovation. Having witnessed advanced chemical technologies abroad, he believed India could compete globally if the right engineering capabilities were developed locally.
Leaving behind a successful career in the United States, Mr. Sheth returned to India with no capital and just one employee. To fund his vision, he sold his most valued possession – an imported red Toyota Camry – to build GEC’s first factory shed. What followed was a journey driven by perseverance, technical excellence, and an unwavering commitment to sustainability.
In its formative years, GEC focused on pollution control and sulphuric acid plant equipment, helping industries operate cleaner, safer, and more efficiently. Strategic collaborations with KOCH Engineering (1987–1997) and Monsanto (1997–2010) enabled GEC to bring advanced global technologies to Indian sulphuric acid plants.
Backed by state-of-the-art fabrication facilities and expertise in CorFre® and high-performance corrosion-resistant alloys, GEC continues to set new benchmarks in reliability, durability, and lifecycle performance. With advanced degrees in Chemical Engineering (B.S. & M.S.) and Industrial Engineering (B.S.) from a prestigious U.S. university, Mr. Mahendra C. Sheth has been the visionary force behind Galiakotwala Engineering Company since its inception. As Founder, he transformed a modest manufacturing enterprise into a globally respected engineering supplier by pioneering new designs, materials, and process innovations. His deep technical expertise and forward-thinking leadership have established a strong foundation for the company’s long-term success and unwavering commitment to excellence. He is the author of three books and remains deeply engaged in community development through the Galiakotwala Janseva Foundation as well as his personal philanthropic initiatives.

After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Columbia University, an Ivy League institution in the United States, with a dual degree in Chemical Engineering and Economics, Mr. Aditya Sheth joined the business in 2010. Under his dynamic leadership, the company has significantly expanded its global footprint, supplying advanced engineering equipment to more than 41 countries. He has led key initiatives focused on customer-centricity, supply-chain and resource optimization, process automation, and lean manufacturing. His strategic vision has not only accelerated international growth but has also strengthened the company’s reputation for quality, integrity and ethical conduct across every project.
